Quick Video to Better Understand Pain
From a Bio-Psycho-Social Healing Approach
ADVANCED NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY
This is an extremely gentle modality, applied with precise anatomical knowledge and based on neurological laws that explain how the central nervous system initiates and maintains pain, while emphasizing and stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This treatment style is perfect for pre- and post-surgery recovery, and for those managing chronic pain by accelerating the overall healing process.
Neuromuscular therapy is essentially a series of soft tissue manipulations. First I address the affected area indirectly, by softening surrounding tissues through the phenomenon of thixotropy, then distinguishing and alleviating any lingering myofascial adhesions we find.
Together we re-educate the link between the muscles and the nervous system, enhancing the function of joints and muscles, and facilitating the release of endorphins. The outcome of this therapy is to help relieve pain and dysfunction by alleviating the underlying cause, rather than just placating the symptoms.
CANCER / ONCOLOGY MASSAGE
Oncology Massage is a special type of bodywork close to my heart, and developed specifically for pediatric and adult cancer patients. People with cancer have unique needs which must be addressed to make sure that massage is actually beneficial to their health.
Treatment plans may change from session to session, based on what is appropriate and/or contraindicated. As patients undergo different cancer treatments like radiation or chemotherapy, it’s extremely important to keep me up-to-date with ALL the latest changes for the most safe and effective sessions possible.
I do ask for your attending physician’s consent prior to treatment, and strongly encourage fostering a health care collaboration. This way we can best focus our time and attention on creating a gentle, nurturing environment for you to relax into during our session. If you or someone you know is battling cancer, please consider booking a healing oncology massage online today. Call or email me with any questions you may have.
CHAIR MASSAGE
Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in your home or workplace. It’s a great way to receive individual healing or as part of a corporate wellness event. With this form of therapy, you’ll receive your massage session while seated in a specialized ergonomic chair which I provide to your location. It’s also a great option for tighter spaces!
In addition to the usual health benefits, another benefit of chair massage is that it is done over the clothing. With seated massage, you can avoid the discomfort and awkwardness that some may feel in disrobing for a traditional massage. Also, chair sessions are usually shorter than table sessions, making it convenient enough to fit into your busy schedule.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to alleviate chronic tension patterns through deep breaths, and deep pressure; with slow strokes on the affected areas. Your breath is your most important and powerful tool for this modality. I also use a variety of tools - including my my voice - to prompt your synchronized breath; along with my fingers, forearms, elbows, knees, and sometimes even feet to apply sustained pressure. These heavily concentrated micro-movements either flow in alignment with the fibers of muscles, tendons, and fascia - in a pin-and-stretch method - or slowly sawing against the grain.
These techniques are ideal for athletes and highly effective for releasing stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the deep nature of this work, your open communication with me during this particular modality is especially crucial to avoid unnecessary discomfort. While the purpose of this therapy is not meant to hurt, soreness is relatively common during and sometimes after the treatment. I encourage you to drink plenty of water afterwards, to help flush out any lactic acid and/or other toxins that may have been released during your treatment.
FOUR HANDED MASSAGE
Experience the overwhelming sensation of two talented therapists administering ancient massage therapy at the exact same time. Your mental and muscular tension will quickly melt away as your body surrenders to the smooth, undulating strokes. This style of bodywork is like the child of Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, with two therapists moving over you like waves of the ocean. Ultimate relaxation is the only possible outcome.
This style is especially effective for the “thinkers” and “A-type” personalities, as it is impossible to anticipate the next movement that all four hands will take at any given time, thus forcing busy minds to truly surrender to the process of receiving. Clients can make requests regarding focus areas, modalities, and therapeutic techniques.
GERIATRIC MASSAGE
Geriatric massage is a form of touch therapy designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly. It helps to improve blood and lymphatic circulation, decrease pain, and also increase range of motion.
If you are elderly, geriatric massage can help you maintain and improve your overall health, as well as regain certain physical functions that may have been reduced due to a lack of mobility, injury, and/or general aging. Massage can also help alleviate symptoms of loneliness and/or depression for those who don’t typically receive enough positive physical touch.
Each individual’s needs may vary drastically, even from one treatment to the next. I’ll ask you to share how you feel before, during, and after each session - to ensure you receive the unique and effective care you deserve.
HOT STONE THERAPY
Hot Stone Therapy is a massage enhancement which may be requested and combined with many other modalities. I use heated stones in two ways, stationary and dynamically. Stationary stones are carefully placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation. Dynamic stones are held and gently glided over you throughout your session.
Muscles that are heated with these stones tend to release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is super enveloping, nurturing, and rejuvenating.
KUA LUA BACKWALKING
Kua Lua is the ancient art of Hawaiian Backwalking, steeped in the martial arts tradition. This is an excellent massage modality for people who enjoy very deep pressure and also for those who may prefer to remain clothed during their session. Kua Lua is traditionally performed with the client lying on a floor mat and the practitioner holding a bamboo staff for balance, however it may also be performed on a massage table in most cases.
I employ the utmost care, precision, and balance using my feet to release your tension from head to toe. Of course I won’t use my full weight throughout the entire session, rather each technique is tailored to your specific needs in each particular area. This is another modality which is frequently combined with one or two others, for a more well-rounded massage session.
LOMI LOMI HEALING
Lomi Lomi or rumi rumi is an ancient Hawaiian massage practice - originally offered to the great kings and chiefs of the islands, to aid in the digestion of their rich abundant feasts - and is part of a larger native Hawaiian tradition of healing and natural body care.
I learned through my “kumu” (teacher) in Maui that all living beings are seeking a state of “ho’oponopono” (right balance) through love, gratitude, compassion, and forgiveness. This is the spiritual intention of our practice.
During a Lomi Lomi session I begin with a traditional Hawaiian “pule” (prayer chant) and “malama” (care for) your body through a deep rhythmic massage flow, mimicking the rolling ocean waves.
I skillfully address the muscles, tendons, and ligaments -as well as the bones lying deep within - while reviving your spirit and filling your body with the “pono” (righteous) energy of love. If this modality appeals to you, ask me about 4-handed Lomi Lomi!
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue massage therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body.
“Myo” refers to the muscles in our bodies. “Fascial” refers to the fascia or connective tissue (like saran wrap) that covers and connects all our muscles, organs, and skeletal structures.
We are most susceptible to developing “knots” or myofascial adhesions at our musculotendonous junctions, where our muscle fibers essentially “turn into” our tendon fibers. Because there is a change in the quality of tissue, those areas are particularly vulnerable to dysfuntion and/or the development of “knots,” myofascial adhesions, or even trigger points.
Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Dermoneural modulation is one example of an indirect release technique, which involves applying a lighter pressure and gently stretching the fascia. This promotes increased blood circulation and pain relief.
PEDIATRIC MASSAGE
Children experience many of the same ailments that plague us adults, yet they are traditionally much less likely to receive professional therapeutic massage. For this reason I teamed up with Tina Allen, pioneer of the pediatric massage therapy movement, and founder of the Liddle Kidz Foundation.
I offer certified pediatric massage therapy for children of all ages, including those with special needs like oncology and/or palliative care. Kid’s bodies are significantly different than those of adults, and they require safe nurturing touch just as much, if not more than we do.
However, children’s attention spans - and therefore their massage session durations - are often much shorter than those of adults. This modality is tailored towards kids’ needs and is often quite a bit more animated and creative, depending on the child’s age and developmental stage.
If you know a kiddo in need of a session, contact me to discuss eligibility and requirements for this special form of massage therapy. Please note, a parent or legal guardian at least 18 years or older must be present.*
PREGNANCY / PRENATAL & POSTPARTUM MASSAGE
Women’s bodies endure tremendous stress throughout pregnancy, during and after childbirth; due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Different therapeutic techniques are used to address these changes as they arise, all while keeping mommy and baby safe, by avoiding possible contraindications.
Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout all three trimesters, as well as after the baby is born. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, as well as improved circulation, breathing and relaxation.
After 39 weeks, some babies need a little extra motivation to leave the womb, and this is when Induction Massage techniques are especially useful. I’ll share the most important tools to initiate labor safely and naturally at home or wherever you are.
Both natural (vaginal) and Cesarean births have short term and long term affects on a woman’s body, and massage can dramatically decrease the severity of impact on the recovering mother. Additionally, one out of five women will suffer from postpartum depression, and massage has been proven to significantly decrease depression and anxiety, both during the session and for up to about 5 days after.
Postpartum massage is an excellent therapy to support the physical, mental, and emotional healing a mother experiences after the miracle of birth. The benefits are bountiful, so bless up your loved one now! Pregnancy massage is a practical and powerful gift for any new and/ or expectant mother.

SHIATSU
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words – “shi” (finger) and “atsu” (pressure). The pressure is applied along the meridians, or energetic pathways, for direct stimulation of various “potent points.”
This precise pointwork is combined with gentle stretching techniques which help to encourage the flow of “Chi” (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is traditionally done over clothing on a floor mat or low-laying table, and is revered as a meditative healing art that honors the mind, body, and spirit.
SPORTS / PERFORMANCE MASSAGE
Sports Massage is a type of bodywork designed for highly active people who participate in athletics. Engaging in sports can be harsh on the body and may lead to acute and/or chronic pain.
This modality enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pain, swelling and toxins (like lactic acid) in the body, increase blood and lymphatic circulation, relax the mind, and increase flexibility.
Sports or Performance Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete who has suffered an injury. By decreasing pain, proprioception is increased and encourages greater kinesthetic awareness; this promotes the body’s natural immune functions.
If you or an athlete you love is investing in getting shredded, make sure to take time to restore what you break down. Schedule your next HIIT workout AND reward yourself by booking a recovery massage too!
